Level Up is a tuition centre in Birmingham for 11+, KS3 and GCSE. Taught by teachers with a track record above national average, to children who want to be there. Hard questions as the default, and a method built in non-selective state schools — the same ones your child goes to.
Three subjects a week, every week of the school year. 70 minutes of English, 70 minutes of Maths and 70 minutes of Science — 3½ hours of teaching for the price of a takeaway.
The first 20 pupils pay £15 a week for all three subjects, and hold that rate for 12 months from the day they start. After that it is £15 for the first subject and £5 for each one after — never more than £25 a week, however much your child does.
We open on Saturday 15 August 2026.
One condition: use the place. Miss two sessions in a row without telling us and we'll check you're alright. Miss a third with no word and the place goes to the next child on the list. Tell us you'll be away — illness, family, anything — and none of that applies. We're only ever releasing places nobody is using.

£15 a week for all three subjects until 31 January 2027, then £25 a week — the price everybody else pays. Our first twenty pupils hold £15 for a full twelve months; these places are the shorter run, and there are only twenty of them.

Billed monthly. Cancel any time with 30 days' notice. The price is capped at £25 however many sessions your child attends, so adding a subject never costs you more than £5.

Why the difference? 11+ is a specialist subject — verbal and non-verbal reasoning are not taught in school, and teachers who can deliver them well are genuinely hard to find. We would rather pay for one who can than put your child in front of one who cannot. The founding rate covers English, Maths and Science; it does not include 11+.
Your child sits the West Midlands Grammar Schools Entrance Test in September 2027. Registration usually opens in May and closes at the end of June — miss it and they cannot sit the test.

Most tuition centres lead with their group size, because ratio is the easiest thing to promise. The evidence does not support it. The Education Endowment Foundation finds that cutting a class by ten pupils buys about one month of extra progress.
The Sutton Trust finds that the difference between a strong teacher and a weak one is worth close to a year of learning — in a single year.
So we put the money where the evidence is. Our classes are full-size, and they are taught by teachers whose classes have finished above national average. A great teacher in front of thirty beats an average tutor in front of four, and it is not close.

Every pupil is assessed before they start, and every place comes with one condition: you are here to learn, and you do not stop anyone else from learning.
If a child repeatedly disrupts a session, we will talk to you. If it continues, they lose their place and will not be offered another one.
We know how that sounds. It is the only way we can promise every other parent something most of them have never been offered — that their child will spend 3½ hours a week in a room where the teaching is not being interrupted.
A child who is struggling is not a behaviour problem, and we will never treat them as one. This is about children who choose to stop others learning.

Qualified teachers only. We hire people we would want teaching our own children — if they are not good enough for ours, they are not good enough for yours. All staff working with children hold an enhanced DBS check.
Full class size — we are not a small-group provider, and we would rather tell you that plainly than pretend otherwise. Keeping classes tiny is what forces tuition prices up to £30 or £40 an hour, and the evidence says it buys very little: the EEF puts a ten-pupil reduction at roughly one month of extra progress. Teacher quality is worth about a year. We spend the money there instead, which is also how the price stays at £25 a week.
We speak to you first. If it continues, the child loses their place and will not be offered another one. Every place at Level Up carries the same condition — you are here to learn, and you do not stop anyone else learning. That rule is what protects your child's session, and we apply it consistently.
To be clear about what this is not: a child who is finding the work hard, or who is quiet, or who needs extra help, is not a behaviour problem and will never be treated as one. This is about deliberate, repeated disruption.
Yes. Every pupil is assessed before starting so we know where they are and can place them properly. It is not an entrance exam and nobody is turned away for being behind — that is very often exactly who we are for.
The West Midlands Grammar Schools Entrance Test for entry in September 2027 is on Saturday 12 September 2026. Registration for that sitting closed on 26 June 2026. Children currently in Year 5 will sit in September 2027 — registration usually opens in May and closes at the end of June, and we will remind you.
Because of where we are. More than half the children in Perry Barr are growing up in poverty, and tuition at £30 or £40 an hour is not a real option for most families round here — which means the children who would gain most from it never get it. £25 a week for three subjects is what we think a family can actually afford. It is not a trial rate, and it does not go up once you are in.

Yes — one subject is £15 a week. Adding a second is £5 more, and a third another £5, so all three comes to £25 and never goes higher. We price it that way on purpose: once your child is here, another subject should not be a financial decision.
Nothing, as long as you tell us. Illness, a family day, a hospital appointment — send us a message and the place is held, however many times it happens.
The only thing that costs a place is silence. If your child misses two sessions in a row and we haven't heard from you, we'll get in touch — usually something has happened and we would rather help than assume. If a third goes by with no contact, we may give the place to a child on the waiting list, and we'll write to you before we do. Places are limited and we would rather they were being used.
Weekly programmes are billed monthly and you can cancel with 30 days' notice. The Year 6 intensive is a fixed block and is non-refundable once it has started, except as set out in our Terms & Conditions.
